Below are some guidelines, if you ensure you consider these before organising your fundraising activity, so that participants, guests and attendees have a safe and enjoyable fundraising event.
Where to start and what to consider
STARS has written the following documents to identify basic legal and safety consideration. We have tried to cover as many aspects of setting up an event as possible but because of the variety of events, it is not possible for this guide to cover all eventualities, nor will all the guidance notes be necessary for small events.
Safety considerations
Risk assessment
Licenses and permissions
Raffles and lotteries

Raising the profile of your event
Firstly if you are planning on using STARS name and/or logo in publicity materials we request that you send over a draft to our Fundraising Team on publicity@stars.org.uk. If you have decided to create your own publicity materials please make it clear that you are fundraising in aid of STARS but that you do not represent the charity.
STARS suggests the wording should be ‘Name of event/volunteer’ raising funds in aid of STARS. It is also very important that you include STARS registered charity number (1084898).
In the event of something going wrong
This is when your careful preparation and planning which included following our safety and legal guidelines will help your run a safe and successful event.
However if in the unlikely event of something going wrong, this preparation will help you and serve you well. Keeping the risk assessment, planning paperwork and safety checklist and being able to produce these on request will prove professionalism.
For further support and guidance on holding a successful event please contact the Fundraising Team on events@stars.org.uk
