Beat the Tax Man and support STARS

The Payroll Giving Scheme started in 1987. Anybody who pays tax under the PAYE scheme may request that a donation to charity be deducted from his or her pay. Your employer must sign a contract to administer the scheme with one of the Payroll Giving Agencies. Payroll Giving can also be used by anyone who is paid a pension from which tax is deducted.

Payroll Giving is a totally tax efficient method of giving to STARS, as the donation includes the tax that would otherwise have been deducted from pay. So instead of the tax going to the Treasury it will go to the selected charity.

How it works

If you were to donate £10 per month to STARS from your pay under our Payroll Giving Scheme, your gift will only cost you £7.80. The Inland Revenue gives us the extra £2.20 (At the basic rate of taxation).

Use our payroll-giving calculator to work out how much a donation would cost you and how much it would be worth to STARS.

Payroll Giving provides the most flexible, tax-efficient method for an employee to make regular donations to us. There are several reasons why the scheme is one of the most flexible methods of donating funds to STARS some of which are as follows:

  • The total donation made each pay period can be changed whenever you require – which allows for changing circumstances.
  • There is neither a continuing commitment to make a donation, nor a minimum period of time during which donations must continue.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Payroll Donor and supporting STARS. Ask your Payroll Department whether your employer offers the Payroll Giving scheme. If so, decide how much you would like to give each payday, complete the Payroll Giving Form and return it to them. The gift is passed to us via your employer’s Payroll Giving Agency and, because your donation is made before tax is taken out, STARS receives your gift in full. If your Payroll Department does not have a scheme in place, but are interested in creating one please follow this link and Charitable Giving will contact you.
