Three types of legacy to remember
There are three types of legacy you can leave to STARS. Whatever choice you make, whatever size, it will help us to continue offering our specialist services.
Pecuniary legacy
This is a gift of a fixed amount of money. It should be noted that, unless you review the amount regularly or index link your legacy, the value of a pecuniary legacy might fall through the effects of inflation. For Example if you pledged £1,000 in 1993 the actual value of that pledge in 2007 would be closer to £600.
Residuary legacy
This is a gift of the balance or part of the balance of your estate, once all your other wishes have been carried out. This is a popular way to leave a gift to a charity because it is expressed as a percentage of your estate rather than a cash value and therefore retains its value over time.
Specific legacy
This is simply a gift of personal possessions such as land, buildings, furniture, jewellery and even antiques. Clearly their value will fluctuate over time but can be one of the most generous gifts a charity could receive So what next?
