Welcome to STARS Patient Information
Here you can access information for patients prepared with the guidance of the Medical Advisory Committee of STARS. Experiencing symptoms or being diagnosed with syncope can be very worrying. The sections in patient information aim to help you with your worries and provide you with support and information on syncope and Reflex Anoxic Seizures.
Conditions
There are many different causes of syncope, some common and some rare. Most cases of syncope are due to the common faint. Fainting is caused by a short-term reduction in blood pressure to your brain.
Diagnosis
Diagnosing the underlying causes of syncope can be a challenge. The process of diagnosing the causes of your faint and other symptoms should always start with a thorough medical history.
Treatment Options
Syncope (fainting) can have many different causes. The majority are not life-threatening and can usually be easily controlled. However, a very small minority can be dangerous. As a result, some causes of fainting are more treatable and can be improved with simple self help measures. Others are complex and may require medication or pacemaker options.
STARS Alert Cards
STARS offers Alert Cards which are the size of a credit card. They provide key information on what to do in the event of an RAS or Syncope attack.
